Christmas in wartime can and should be celebrated. How about a birthday celebration?
His Beatitude Sviatoslav, who previously emphasized the need to celebrate Christmas during the war, spoke about whether it is acceptable celebrate other holidays, for example, one’s birthday.
If it is important to celebrate Christmas during the war because, in this case, it is about celebrating an inevitable reality that goes beyond the human horizon, then in celebrating one’s birthday and similar holidays, the Primate called for wisdom and prudence.
“If we talk about social entertainment and loud parties, we shouldn’t celebrate our birthdays this way. But when it comes to the smallest and necessary for maintaining mental and physical health, then we must necessarily do so,” said the Head of the Church in an interview for “New Voice.”
“Psychologists state that the enemy wants to lead us into total depression, to take away positive emotions. So, therefore, let us not bring such pleasure to him,” he noted.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav urged Ukrainians to maintain the minimum necessary things for spiritual, mental, and physical composure. However, approach the celebrations wisely and carefully.
